Vaccines dumped from new Ask Dr Sears website?

I just caught a glimpse of the new Ask Dr. Sears Website. It was terrible slow loading when I first saw it, but the the landing page was all re-structured and modern in nice greens and oranges (I like that, very purdy).

Since we have been posting on the vaccine discussion board (justthevax passim), I thought I should take a stroll through the new page and have a look what the vaccine area looks like now. Well, this morning, there was none. While the "all categories" page did not load all too well, both on the left category bar

and on the middle all categories bar, there were no vaccines.

but they certainly had been there on the old page.

UPDATED TO ADD - indeed, no "Vaccines Area" - the search for "vaccines" only leads to Dr. Bob, not to further info (bites tongue):

I wonder whether this is going to be amended, or, whether in a year of pertussis and measles outbreaks that have cost 10 infants in the Sears' home state of California their lives, and have put many kids in hospital, the Sears have decided to drop this potentially contentious part of their web presence.

In any case - since the Sears' vaccine book discussion board has now disappeared, I hope you do have a good doctor and I can recommend our forum and, if you want a bit of a mixed audience, also the Immunization Discussion forum on Babycenter - see you there!

  3. It's interesting...I was in the middle of a vaccine discussion and wasn't finished! Even had Dr. Bob request I send a series of posts...ugh! I think this is so cheesy. I understand shifting focus, but to dump it altogether...

  4. It is very frustrating indeed. If you want to, I can give you my opinion here (not much traffic) or on Babycenter (wild mix of attitudes from totally anti-vaccine to very pro-vaccine, with at least one awesome middle grounder).

  5. This is an ineresting turn of events. I note Jenny McCarthy avoided mention of vaccines during her address at Autism One this year too. Curiouser and curiouser.

  6. How does one go about finding and posting on the immunizations forum on baby center? I am not familiar with that site at all. Oh, and does one need a log in?....I may not be interested if that is the case.

  7. Well, I wonder has he dropped it because he realized he screwed up or for other reasons?

  8. Anon - I have linked the Babycenter forum in the post

You will have to register for that one.

  9. Kim - I really hope that this doesn't mean there has been another incident in his practice (he also still has SSPE looming over him from 2008). In my opinion, Bob had gone further and further away from the standards of medical care in the past couple of years. That telling oxymoron on his regular "Warning" about me and SM - they are getting the medical facts right, but we come to different opinions?!

The Drs Sears have not entirely booted Bob off their page. He still has one page (http://www.askdrsears.com/content/dr-bob) on which he is introduced - but the page on his fees (ASFAIR up to US$200 for a vaccine visit of which you have MANY when you see him) and his page "Dr. Bob's explanation of the value and benefit of using a non-insurance doctor" are no longer there...

  10. Yes, people get vaccinated and still get diseases -- because some people don't have the proper immune response. That's why herd immunity is so important.

Dr. Bob is scared of "Big Pharma?" Please -- he doesn't need to keep his practice open -- he's made a mint off his "Vaccine book" -- the book where he pulled his alternate schedule out of his butt.

I am always amused by the chorus of "Lemming/Sheep" comments from the anti-vax crowd. It's irnoic. Sheep are the ones who BLINDLY follow the ridiculous, anti-scientific ravings of people who just want to sell their books and their non-insurable crazytown treatments.

What's the appropriate animal metaphor for a group of severely ignorant, easily scared individuals whose lives are in danger because of their insistence on not vaccinating? Lambs to the slaughter?

I've done the research. I've read the ingredients. I've read the studies. It's made me want to vaccinate more than ever.

These ingredients you think are so dangerous... formaldehyde that's exactly the same form as is present in our own bodies? Aluminum in not much higher levels than you find in breastmilk and much LOWER levels than a formula-fed baby receives? What's the problem here?

  11. anonymous:There are risks to vaccination. There are risks to not vaccinating.

So, brave brave anonymous, can you tell us what the relative risk there is between the DTaP, Tdap and actually getting pertussis, tetanus and diphtheria? You do have that handy, don't you?

Oh, and nice use of the "pharma shill gambit".

  12. You women are so ignorant it is sick.

    my irony meter just broke

There are risks to vaccination. There are risks to not vaccinating.

Yes, and we know that the risks of not vaccinating are orders of magnitude higher than the risks of vaccinating.

There have been several people who have gotten pertussis that were vaccinated.

    and?

If he pulled the vaccination part of his web site it was because he was feeling heat from big pharma!

They (there are a lot of Dr Searses) did and my guess is they did that to concentrate on the SALES bit of their emporium, rather than the niche market.

Several doctors have went on record of big pharma trying to devastate their career and credibility.

    and your point is?

You idiots are all sheep...lemmings jumping off a cliff.

Actually, it is non-vaccinators pushing their kids and other vulnerable people off the cliff.

    Read the ingredients.

I did - you point is?

Oh wait a lot of you have...and you still don't give a f.

that may have to do with the fact that we understand the ingredients and don't fall for the ooooo, baaaaad toxins spiel?

  13. >If he pulled the vaccination part of his web
    >site it was because he was feeling heat from >big pharma!

So Dr. Sears is a coward?

    >Several doctors have went on record of big >pharma trying to devastate their career and >credibility.

    "Have went" - wow.

    >You idiots are all sheep...lemmings jumping >off a cliff. Read the ingredients.

Why do you think big pharma lists the actual ingredients? Is it because they are deeply honest people, or because you are too ignorant to know that a substance with a scary name isn't necessarily actually dangerous?

  14. It would be so nice to read a discussion about vaccines that does not turn into name calling and complete ugly-ness. Many of us would just like the facts on both sides to make an informed decision for ourselves. Maybe it's not possible to get fact without opinion since it's such a hot topic, but the name calling and sarcasm just lessens credibility all the way around.

  17. The funny think is that alot of people don't realize that Catherina and Science Mom have been voraciously attacking Dr Sears and anyone who questions vaccines for years... over a half a decade literally. NO ONE has that kind of "free" time as a hobby unless they are getting some kind of compensation somewhere or somehow. They both claim to have kids and are professional women. As a professional myself with children and a life.... there is no way I could devote the time they have to this issue unless their times isn't a part of their paid work. And funny that they should blame Sears on the measles and whooping cough.... they forget their own mantra "correlation doesn't equal causation".

    1. You are commenting on a blog post that is over year old. Obviously they have spent their time doing other things because this blog is not updated that often.

This is a very poor attempt of the Pharma Shill Gambit.

    2. but you have time enough to dig up a 13.5 months old post of ours to post a lame "they must be paid" comment. Not very convincing...

  18. And from one of your makers of vaccines comes:

How about the production of a substance with a scary name? Production practices that are downright criminal? If Glaxo could act so shameless with the drugs mentioned in the settlement, just imagine what you are injecting into your perfectly healthy infant.

Anyone who questions vaccines? No, anyone who makes stupid, anti-scientific proclamations about vaccines. We have been very helpful to those who legitimately question vaccines.

NO ONE has that kind of "free" time as a hobby unless they are getting some kind of compensation somewhere or somehow. They both claim to have kids and are professional women. As a professional myself with children and a life.... there is no way I could devote the time they have to this issue unless their times isn't a part of their paid work.

And you know this how? Perhaps it is you who can't multi-task and don't know how to juggle your time adequately. To infer that we are paid to do this based upon your own inadequacies testifies to your inability to grasp scientific issues.

And funny that they should blame Sears on the measles and whooping cough.... they forget their own mantra "correlation doesn't equal causation".

Sears and anti-vaxx doctors like him are most certainly to blame for those who eschew vaccines because they write books about them and advise them; it's their bread and butter. He has told people outright not to vaccinate or do you conveniently forget that?

Because a manufacturer has serious production problems in a facility that means that all kinds of unnamed ingredients are being put into vaccines? That's twisted 'logic' if I ever saw some. You might want to check your own ignorance on that matter and also educate yourself about biologic manufacturing.

    1. You missed my point. The person I was replying to thought that pharma companies are evil, but cited their ingredient lists at face value. I was just pointing out the contradiction.
